Winter Mountaineering School in Retezat Mountains

If you have decided that you want to explore the mountains in the winter as well, but you don’t know where to start, we recommend you to sign up for the Winter School.
To lay the foundations for walking in the mountains in winter, you need to learn some rules to know the risks existing on the mountain,
to learn to use the technical equipment correctly, how to walk a route safely in winter and many others.

The Winter School is supported by the instructors from Flo Adventure, and has been running for 28 years, being one of the
the most appreciated courses by clients.
The mountaineering courses offered by Flo Adventure are built around a step-by-step approach so anyone can learn
and progress safely. From basic ice climbing techniques to complex ascents in extreme mountain areas,
each course is adapted to the level of the participant. Experienced instructors patiently guide and assist learners
develop their skills in a safe environment.

This course is made in collaboration with the Flo Adventure School – Travel Agency.

Itinerariu

COURSE CONTENT
-how to walk correctly in the winter on the mountain
-how to build a shelter in the snow (bivouac) and other similar things
– rescues from crevasses
-braking with the ice ax in case of slipping
-ice climbing technique
-about avalanches (how they occur, snow reading and types of avalanches)
-searching for a victim with DVA (Avalanche Victim Detection Device) and snow probe
-covering a route in winter conditions

EQUIPMENT REQUIRED
– 60-80 liter backpack (it will take about 3 hours to climb to the cabin)
-boots (rigid sole)
-Sunglasses
– sunscreen cream
-winter/ski jacket
-winter/ski pants
-snow guards
-gloves (if they are not waterproof, 2 pairs are needed)
-hat
-head torch
-sleeping bag (the cabin is equipped with woolen beds, but it is recommended that everyone has a sleeping bag)
– small backpack 15-30 liters (for everyday outdoor activities)
– water/tea bottle 1-2 liters/day (we recommend a thermos)
-first aid kit + medicines specific to each, if needed
– food of your choice for the entire period (take into account the periods with outdoor activities for which energy bars, dried fruits, etc. are useful)
-climbing equipment (if you have: helmet, harness, ice ax, etc.)
