Itinerary

Itinerary

Day 1: Meeting in Sibiu. Going to Biertan, getting to know the village. Dinner.

We will meet in Sibiu and from there our journey to Transylvania begins. In about 1h and 30 minutes we’ll arrive in Biertan and go to the accommodation. After everyone is settled, we can explore a little bit the village and the fortified church – the most beautiful and impressive Saxon fortified church in Transylvania, also part of UNESCO heritage. There are many stories and legends about it, including how the local priest dealt with couples who wanted a divorce!

We’ll enjoy traditional dinner at the accommodation.

 

Day 2: Breakfast. Explore Rupea Citadel, Viscri village, Crit village. Dinner.

After having a delicious breakfast, we will start our day with a visit to Rupea Citadel, one of the oldest archaeological sites in Romania, the first signs of human settlements dating from the Paleolithic and early Neolithic. The view is incredible from there, you’ll understand why was such a strategic point of defense.

After an history incursion, we’ll had to one of the most famous village in Romania, Viscri. The fortified church of Viscri it’s also a Unesco World Heritage and worth seeing it. The village caught the attention of Prince Charles and after repeated visits he bought a house and helped the village to flourish after decades of oblivion. There are many activities happening here and you will witness the typical rural life from Transylvania.

On our way back to Biertan, we’ll have a short stop to Crit village. It’s a not so well known saxon village, but you will definitely enjoy the charming side of it. The houses are beautiful, just like the ones in Viscri. Also, it has a well preserved fortified church, that is gorgeous.

We’ll end the day with a traditional dinner.

 

Day 3: Brefkast. Explore Saschiz village, the city of Sighisoara, Cund village. Dinner.

The 3’rd day we’ll be a long one so be prepared for some more Transylvanian exploring. After breakfast, we’ll go to Saschiz village, and together we’ll learn more about the importance of this place and the fortified church whom is also a Unesco World Heritage. Saschiz even rivaled Sighișoara (you’ll learn why).

After that, we’ll go to the beautiful city of Sighisoara, that has one of the most well preserved walled old town and is listed by Unesco as a World Heritage Site. We’ll visit the main touristic attractions and wander around the hidden alleys.

If we’re not short on time, we are propososing a short visit to Cund village, to a local cheese factory and you’ll get to experience how cheese is made, from cow milk that is raised freely, consuming grass, herbs and spices from the fields surrounding the village.

We’ll have dinner at the accommodation.

 

 

Day 4: Breakfast. Explore Cârța monastery, Astra museum. Departure

Today is the last day of our Transylvanian incursion. But, we still have a few gorgeous places to explore, before saying goodbye.

After breakfast and saying our goodbyes to our host from Biertan we’ll had to Carta Abbey, the only Cistercian monastery in Romania. It’s a very impressive place that witnessed a lot of wars and conquers.

Our last stop of this incursion will be at Astra Museum. The ASTRA Museum of Folkloric Traditional Civilization is situated in the Dumbrava Forest, at a distance of 4 kilometers from Sibiu.

The museum hosts original monuments representative for the values of the Romanian village.
Dwellings from various parts of the country, interior decorations preserved in the original form, peasant industrial installations, traditional means of transportation and many other,  are displayed here.

After the visit we will go our separate ways with a lot of new memories and knowledge about this beautiful part of the country. Hope you enjoyed our time together!
